The Foundation for Women's Art exhibiton Uncanny Tales, a touring exhibition of four internationally recognised London based artists, Paula Rego, Ana Maria Pacheco, Marcelle Hanselaar and Oona Grimes is now over. A resounding success, catalogues are still available through the FWA office.

Uncanny Tales is a fascinating and thought provoking exhibition of four of the strongest figurative artists working in the UK today. Paula Rego and Ana Maria Pacheco have both been Artists in Residence at the National Gallery in London and all four artists have shown extensively in the UK and internationally.
This is the first time the artists have shown work together, they all share a passion for expressing the savage, erotic or subconscious aspects of life, each with very distinct and personal ways of telling tales. Their work brings together fluent drawing skills, subtle use of colour and technical expertise within the print process. For more information on tour venues and dates, click on the link above or see our Uncanny Tales was reviewed in The Independent on Tuesday 4th April 2006 by Sue Hubbard 'All are figurative artists in an age when figuration runs the risk of stating too much. Yet all strive to say something that is often inexpressible, and though perhaps shocking, goes in its importance and truth beyond shock.' '...this exhibition dares, in an age when we are endlessly assaulted by honed and tucked versions of femininity to reveal the dark side of the female unconscious, the cruel, the repressed and the exhibitionist. In so doing it sheds honest light on our taboo pleasures and deepest anxieties and fears.' Sue Hubbard 04/04/06 (please click image below to see full review)
