Writing for Radio

Radio has always been about voices and stories. This week is for writers who want to use both in the context of the real world, either for writing scripts and links around documentary material, juxtaposing the real and the imagined, bringing history and ideas to life or scripting and delivering radio talk.

This course is tutored by Piers Plowright and Matt Thompson

Piers Plowright made BBC radio features for thirty years, including Nobody Stays in this House Long, Setting Sail and One Big Kitchen Table, all winners of the Prix Italia. Matt Thompson is an award winning radio producer who has worked on over 200 documentaries for the BBC including Touching the Elephant and Goodnight Tapes. Now working for Loftus Productions he continues to make one-off documentaries for BBC radio.

Course guest,

Frances Byrnes is a Senior Producer of features for BBC Radio 3 and 4.
